Yiwu Elected into the Global "100 Resilient Cities"
Recently, in the qualification for the global "100 Resilient Cities" organized by the Rockefeller Foundation of the US, Yiwu City stood out from 325 applicant cities of over 80 countries in the world.
What is the "resilience" of a city? Figuratively speaking, the "resilience" of a city is just like a good medicine with double effects, enabling the city to maintain its basic functional characteristics under either acute impact or chronic pressure and making it able to effectively bring benefit to all residents in good times and in bad.
The Program of "100 Resilient Cities" was born for solving these problems. It was learned that the program was launched by the Rockefeller Foundation on the occasion of its centenary in 2013, with a total scale up to USD 170 million, with a view to help worldwide cities build resilience to cope with the social, economic, and physical challenges in the 21st century. So far, there have been more than 1,000 city applications. The cities that have been elected, including New York of the US, Paris of France, London of the UK, Rome of Italy, and Melbourne of Australia, constitute the "100 Resilient Cities Network".
After elected into the "100 Resilient Cities", Yiwu will share resources, information network, and practical experience with these cities and learn from each other, which will not only create an opportunity for Yiwu to further push ahead with transformation and development but also provide the city with a platform to accelerate its integration into the international "circle of friends" and greatly raise the awareness and reputation of Yiwu at home and abroad.
